A wonderful surprise!

Thanks Aunt Betty for the nice surprise!  I had a few pictures of Mom from My Aunt Betty Sue via mail all the way from Texas!  It is a different one than I have...the one I have was more serious...it as so nice to see my beautiful Mom again...and right near mother's day!

I spend alot of time with Mom every Sunday...at church.  That is when it is still and even amongst all the kids and the mass, I get to talk a bit to Mom.  Every Sunday is also very sad, and I try not to cry while at church.  The Sunday past I saw a nice woman who had also lost her Mom, but had a few month year old son....she also died of cancer. We both cried on Mothers day as we lit candles for our Moms.  I got her phone number, as I want to reach out to her as she seems so alone, and doesnt have many friends here.

Because of my loss of Mom, I have met some wonderful people along the way....she was such an attractor of people...so warm-hearted and disarming...I strive to be like her each day...and give a little of my heart more and more...and find peace through giving. I hope that she is smiling down on me and does not suffer when she sees me cry.  On mother's day Lars and I had a few desserts (Lars had a chocolate one for mom).  I know that would make her smile :)

Thank you so much for telling me so much and so often how much you loved me before you died...I knew what you were doing.  It hurt so much each time I saw you towards the end...and I am sorry I didnt have the strength for it not to hurt..

I have my mousepad with your picture on it and 2012...did you know? i see all the little things around from you and it makes me smile...I only hate the day when I can no longer remember your voice...if that happens...until that day, I will still repeat your voice in my head and have conversations with you as if you were near. Love you mom!

I'm still here

It's been two months now....and I have so much to write....but I am still healing...the pain is just below the surface most of the time...and it still surprises me when it bubbles up....one day its great, and the next I am at a low....I cannot explain it...other than its natural, I suppose. I have so many wonderful stories to tell.....but they will have to wait...

Time Passing

It's been over a month since Mom passed, but if feels like much, much longer.  The permanence is quite hard....but life goes on.  I just pulled out my old cookbook Dad gave in in 82 ...the Acadian Bi-Centennial Cookbook or "French Acadian Cook Book" from the Jennings Association of Commerce....its a little ragged or "tatty"...but I love it...

I am making eggplant dressing today...a recipe my Mom used to cook for me....so good! I was planning on giving her bed to the hospice as a donation...but I still somehow want to imagine that the room is still her room.....and that I could just find her sleeping there like a year ago.  As part of my healing I know that giving it away will be good.

I have so much more to write....I just need the energy, and for time to pass....

From cousin Dwayne

Hi Debbie, I am so sorry about Ruth, she was an incredible lady. Very intelligent and talented. I hope she didn't suffer too much at the end. I never was sure about what as wrong with her. You are so lucky to have had her as your mom. She shared a lot stories with me, and she had an excellent memory and was great to talk with. We did a lot of that when we first met each other for the first time. I had seen Harold a few times over the years. Well Debbie you stay strong and keep the faith GOD BLESS!!!! Dwayne

From Robbie

I too, remember all of those fun times. And those yummy grilled cheese sandwiches! Your Mom made that "trash" snack we loved so much. I'm sorry for your loss, your Mom was such a sweet person. You will be in our prayers as well. May God comfort you during this time.

From Diana

Just found out about your mom. She will always be remembered for the good times we all had from the beach outings. She was a special lady, whom I admired very much. Our prays are with you and the family.

Poems from Aunt Ruby

I thought I would jot these down before I lose them!  These poems are on some yellowed, type-written paper written by Ruby Hodge....my great Aunt...(cousin)----a wonderfulyl sweet soul... :)

You don't have to tell me

You don't have to tell me that you've found somebody new
I have plenty to remind me of the things we used to do
I hope that you are healthy, happy and carefree
I hope there is nothing to remind you of what you did to me
I have learned to take it, learn to smile, Dear, thru my
tears,
For the lesson that you taught me made me wise beyond my years,

When she has her arms around you make the most o your blue
skies,
Just as sure as God's in heaven, it'll be your time to cry,
And when you need a friend, Dear, no matter where you be
When all the world's against you just come back home to me,
For fools never forget, Dear, although I've really tried,
I wish I could forget you but a broken heart has no pride.

 Her Soldier Man

I was aboard an American Clipper
Waiting for the ship to start
When I saw a little soldier
From his mother soon to part

The ship would soon be leaving
It was time for their last goodbye
Her lips were all a tremble tears quickly filled her eyes
Then I heard him softly whisper, "Mother, dear you mustn't
cry."

You must never fear dry up your tears
Smild for you soldier man
Your baby boy is off to war
To give the boys a hand

Why I've told the fellows about you everywhere I have flown
Don't you know that you are still my sweetheart
The sweetest girl I've ever known

My Uncle Sam needs me that's why I want to go
Come, smile for your best and only beau
Goodbye Mom write me often, Don't forget to by Rags a bone
Just keep the home fires burning and I'll soon be coming home

(This song has been accepted by Leo and Hector Richard Bros For a song lyric).

Tips from Dr. Seuss

Who would have thought that the day my Mom passes, I post this in the morning?

This is so like my mom....

1.  She made me feel so very special....in fact she made everyone feel special....

2. Mom was always doing something creative, something different....she loved to inspire, and to give....she stood out, alright :)

3. My parents never set limits...only possibilities....they gave me the zest for life...to be afraid of nothing...For my mom however, the most important thing was for me to be happy :)

4.  Mom was never pretentious and never had a problem speaking her mind...especially when she was passionate about a cause....say no more!

5. Mom was remembered....and she was remembered for her actions...and she often lived like it was the last...by always giving and giving and giving.....here's to you Mom...may I be "half" of your example you set for me and others....

I loved the 5 lessons, and I hope you do too!
